Lead times typically range from 2–7 business days plus shipping, with seasonal spikes. Since you can’t pre-inspect single units, vendor selection, sample orders, and realistic product pages (accurate sizing, material specs, care instructions) are crucial to minimize returns.
Operationally, POD integrates via APIs with ecommerce platforms to sync products, mockups, stock of blanks, and tracking. Key risks include intellectual property (use licensed or original art), color variance between screens and textiles, and geographic coverage (where facilities are located impacts duties and delivery speed). Success metrics mirror dropshipping KPIs—conversion rate, average order value, cancellation rate—but also include reprint rate and artwork rejection rate.
