MRP (Material Requirements Planning) is a tool used in manufacturing to ensure that materials and components are available for production when needed. It helps businesses plan inventory, manage production schedules, and avoid material shortages or excess stock. MRP works by using data such as current inventory, production schedules, sales forecasts, and lead times to calculate material requirements. It then generates procurement schedules for materials and parts, allowing businesses to streamline their operations, reduce costs, and improve supply chain efficiency.

While MRP doesn’t directly apply to dropshipping businesses (since they don’t manage inventory or production), understanding its principles can still be useful. Dropshippers rely on suppliers to handle inventory and fulfillment. By aligning with suppliers who use MRP or similar systems, dropshippers can ensure that products are readily available when orders are placed, reducing the risk of stockouts and delays. MRP principles, such as anticipating demand and maintaining consistent communication with suppliers, can help dropshipping businesses improve order fulfillment and customer satisfaction.
